10 things that keep me alive…

Let me tell you here some of the secrets that keep Mirjam alive in the dry and weary land. 😜

But, let me give you first some background information. We, as a family, living right now in a little town in east of Germany where we are missing a lot of things. To mention some of the things: no church where we can nourish, depressed and perspectiveless people all around us, discrimination and at the same time a lot of admiration – both leave us with the feeling that we are different and we are not one of them. Financial challenges but most of all no real fellowship and friendship, no feeling of home (in my own country!), not being able to express our potential and the freedom to being ourselves. Heavy heart… just everything feeling like on my own motivation and initiative to stay alive. Sure that keeps me in a rollercoaster up and down and it causes me to fight, discipline myself and to get up again and again. To still keep active and alive, focussed and healthy (body, soul and spirit) I’m developing more and more things that help me to survive this time… and to mention beforehanded YES Jesus is the answer for all but I believe our body, mind and spirit, THREE of them need to be healthy to be able to stay balanced. That’s why when you only nourish yourself spiritually and trying to be only in the presence of the LORD can still leave you depressed!!! So let’s be practical, physical as well as to acknowledge the fact that we need to nourish our spirits.

1. Sports

As much as I like to go for runs in the nature or do sports courses in a group, practically for several reasons that hasn’t worked out so much in the place where I am right now. But since I know that sports help me to stay active, fit, healthy, strong and prevents back pain. I need to do s.th. that works for me even when it is not so much fun to do sports from home. There are soo many different exercises that you can find on youtube: cardio, zumba, yoga, exercises for the whole body or for specific body parts 😀 etc. Even nice prenatal courses (most fun so far, when you are pregnant, go for it! 😉 ) you can find! I personally prefer English speaking programmes since it’s more motivating and fun. Recently I’ve found out that there are also apps that you can download on your mobile phone. With time you will develop your own exercises and you can do sports when and wherever you want. For example we as a family like to combine our family outing with some exercises that we have learned and we have found a very nice field for that in the nature where our kids can also play easily and freely.

2. Spiritual inputs (online)

  • Joyce Meyer devotional (an app to download)
  • Daughter’s of the King devotional (also an app)
  • sermons: T.D. Jakes, Tony Evans, Joyce Meyer, Elevation Church, Bethel Church, Hillsong, Heidi Baker, Priscilla Shirer, Maria Prean (to just name some of my actual fovorites)
  • worship: Bethel Worship, Elevation Worship, Hillsong, Silent Worship, Sinach (my favorite NIGERIAN worship) (to just name some of my actual fovorites).

THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE!!! 😁😁😁

3. Prayer

There are different ways of prayer. And I have also experienced that some prayers are mor powerful than the other, if you know what I mean. This topic could fill a whole chapter on its own so let me refer rather on a helpful side on prayer that I’ve just found with a lot of scriptures that can give you an understanding on the power of prayer:

http://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/prayer-bible-verses/

At the same time meditating on the WORD OF GOD and proclaiming it is sooo powerful.

But let me mention as well that the gift of speaking in tongues has been really helpful for me and I thank God for this beautiful gift; the Holy Spirit is such an encourager!!! Halleluja! If you have not received it yet I want to encourage you to ask and seek for it! 😉

And last but not least, if you still lack motivation to pray watch the movie “WAR ROOM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXgC_HLLcCQ”! Such an inspiring movie!!!

4. Relaxation

Relaxation is so important and such a need for our mind, soul and spirit! For example I can find relaxation in taking a bath with silent worship, drinking a cup of coffee or eating ice-cream or anyth. sweet during the day, drinking malt or a wine with chips on the couch at the end of the day, watching a sweet movie, going out with friends, going for a swim, to mention a few of them… 😀

Even changing the environment can help that your mind can relax and get refreshed and new inspiration; may it be a walk out of your home, a short trip out of your town or a longer journey or even holiday!

5. DREAM

What I’ve learned the past 4 years of being married to my nigerian husband who taught me so much about dreaming. It’s amazing and challenging at the same time how there are so many stories to tell how dreams have come through and how much power there is in dreaming, the right way. This will also help you to stay focussed. (I might write more details about this topic in the future 😉 ).

6. Speak and stay positive and try to do the Good works (while you are hoping for better days)

7. Try to enjoy life as much as possible and be joyful and thankful all time (while you are waiting for your breakthrough)

8. Worship, dance, easy and free yourself (even if it means to get redicoulous some times 😉 )

9. Forgive all time and Choose your friends wisely

People are not your enemies! Know who the true enemy is and rebuke him! And just simply try to stay away from people that are not healthy for you and identify people and things that are rather a destruction on your journey. Even if it means to rather stay at home and to not meet with people. Sometimes this way is better for me than to later come home with even more depression, conflicts and burdens. There is time for everything and honestly just meeting with people to not allow a feeling of lonelyness is not the solution. Choose your friends!

10. Know the SEASON you are in

Ecclesiastes 3 (NIV)
A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

15 Whatever is has already been,

    and what will be has been before;

and God will call the past to account.[b]

16 And I saw something else under the sun:

In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,

in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

17 I said to myself,

“God will bring into judgment

both the righteous and the wicked,

for there will be a time for every activity,

a time to judge every deed.”

18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

–> As you might have noticed, Ecclesiastes summarises my points 6 to 10 very well! 😉

To sum up… Some people who probably don’t know us well, might think, wow, Emmanuel and Mirjam they are really blessed and favored, things are just working out for them. And sure we don’t want to deny the fact that we are really blessed and the Lord has shown us sooo many times HIS favor and really at the end of the day it is HIS Grace and Mercy that keep us alive, that brings LIFE, who leads and guides us who inspires us. The Holy Spirit is so sweet, hearing God’s voice, sweet, getting revelations, sweet!!!

BUT believe me things are not just working out for us. If you would know the kind of circumstances we are facing as a family, the things we are going through, you wouldn’t envy us anymore! You would be just content with your own life! We are not in a comfort zone at all and we are not yet there where we wanne be but thank God we are not anymore where we used to be. We are sold out with our lifes. We belong to Jesus and let HIM do what HE wants to do as long as HE is glorified in our lifes I am more than satisfied. Let that be my JOY!!!

At the end let me leave you with one powerful scripture:

James 1 (NIV):

2Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,a whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance4Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
